My Skincare Journey

Hi loves,

It’s been a while right? Like I promised I’m posting often this year. In the midst of the Corona Virus ( I hope everyone is safe and protecting themselves). Anyway, I used the time in lockdown to get my site and set it up -awesome right? It’s still not quite there yet but we grow each day so we move, lol.

My skin backstory- I have never had a skincare routine. My skin wasn’t exactly flawless, but I had no acne or scarring ( dark spots) for that matter. I just had little pimples pop up once a while and some uneven skin tone. Fast forward to March 2020, my skin started to act up. I had acne all over my cheeks and chin and a little down my neck and forehead. Initially I thought it was one of those once a while kind of pimples, but no, it was recurring in the same area for weeks.

I resorted to my usual castor oil spot treatment, which seemed to shrink the pimples but not quite get rid of it entirely, leaving tiny bumps. At this point I didn’t really pay attention to it – way to go, right? No! That was a bad idea. Along the line I had the bright idea to use Apple Cider Vinegar as a toner ( I should know better). I tried it, and it was working. It shrunk most of the pimples in about 7 to 10 days. The only problem I had was, I was causing my face to be dry -I have combination skin. But It was working, so I kept using it. I added aloe vera once or twice a week to help bring back moisture to my skin.

I decided to do some research, because I needed to figure out a way to clear my skin. I found out coconut oil ( which I used as an all over moisturizer) could clog your pores and cause something called comedonal acne. I stopped using it-though at the time I was using olive oil. I thought my pores had been clogged over the 2 plus years of me using the coconut oil, hence the acne – I mean better safe than sorry. I also stopped using the apple Cider vinegar toner I was using because someone commented that she realized it made her acne leave dark spots whether she popped them or not.

I didn’t want to wait around to find out if it was causing the black spots since I was t really popping my pimples – I mean isn’t ACV bad for your face enough? I ended up getting the Cerave SA Renewing Cleanser, Simple Kind to skin Hydrating Light Moisturiser and The Ordinary Niacinamide 10% + Zinc 1%. I learnt how essential proper cleansing is and it’s been good so far honestly, and I’ll share my routine as well as my experience using the products in my next post.

Have you had any skin concerns lately? Are you new to skincare? I would love to know your experience and routine. Do leave a comment!

Sincerely, Riya.
